I just read on the news that Kier Starmer could introduce digital ID cards as soon as tomorrow (Friday), which could be called a Brit Card. The idea is to help crack down on illegal immigration.

Do you think digital ID cards will work?

Every adult in Britain will require a digital ID under plans to tackle illegal immigration.

Sky News understands that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer could announce his backing for the scheme in a speech as early as Friday.

The so-called "Brit card" would verify a citizen's right to live and work in the UK.

The plans would require anyone starting a new job or renting a home to show the card on a smartphone app, which would then be checked against a central database of those entitled to work and live here.

It is hoped this would reduce the attraction of working in the UK illegally, including for delivery companies.

At the moment, workers have to show at least one form of physical ID in the form of documents, but there are concerns within government that these can be faked.

Not sure how a 'digital' card is gonna crack down on immigration when anything 'digital' can be hacked/modified......Just close the fuckin border lol.

I sense that this might not go well. It's definitely going to cause some trouble. Anytime government mention “digital ID,” people will start to shout about privacy and control and I don't really blame them. I understand it can make things easier, but we know how politicians can be. Today they say it’s for convenience, tomorrow it would be a tracking tool. 😂 If they must do it, they should create enough time to explain everything clearly. People don’t trust government easily again, and with reason.
