When we start our very first website, we are often very new to it all, with very little experience in that field. Due to the lack of experience, we will find that we make a lot of mistakes, some of which end up causing the website to fail or to take longer to build up.

What was the biggest mistake you make when starting your first website? What did you learn from that mistake?

Making the background yellow. The first site I ever made was to list off my comic book collection. I listed every comic I owned and had it on this nasty yellow background. I don't remember what site it was, might've been a geocities site, or some other free website service. I always thought it was so cool that I had my own site I had a link to.

My biggest mistake? Chasing traffic over value. I was writing just to get clicks, not to build trust. Later I realised people can literally smell if something is fake from afar, lol. So, since then, I just have to slow down and focus on what I actually enjoy writing. The day I stopped trying to please Google, my site started growing naturally.
