20 20 20 rule for your eye health...

We live in times where staying away from screen is totally impossible. Long hours of sitting in front of gadgets is unavoidable. Be it for work, studies, assignments, entertainment...we all are glued to some or the other screen for most part of the day. And we know it well that it does bring adverse impacts on our mental, emotional and physical health. And the one that suffers the most is eyes. Last weekend I took my younger daughter to doctor for her eyes getting red and itchy. She is not addicted to gadgets but her college work requires few hours of sitting with laptop. She was given some eye drops to lubricate and relax the eyes Well, the doctor advised her 20 20 20 rule. After every 20 minutes, take your eye off the screen for 20 seconds and look at something 20 meters away. Then you can come back to screen.
That sounded interschool. Did you know something like that? Is there something that you follow for your eyes when you work on screen for long hours?

@Sanjeev. I was not aware of anything of this kind till I visited the doctor's office. These days they keep devising some rules and catchy terminologies for people to understand it better. Even I do the same. And without knowing this rule, I would never sit on my laptop for more than 45 minutes to an hour..and in that too, I would take a break to stretch and walk around and then come back. My body signals me and I listen to that. I avoid working on mobile as much as possible. And if I do, I would take a break every 15 minutes.

Everyone should understand this, but because these days we are too addicted to our mobile phones, we are not able to follow it. Maybe people are attracted more to the things that are harmful for us. Life was better when there were no phones because these days I see people glued to their phones more than talking to the people. People are not very friendly to each other nowadays; they need mobile phones more than people around them. I am scared of what will happen to us 10-20 years from now.

It's a very unfortunate situation at present in the world. And if people don't rise above this addiction and over dependency on technology, this is going to be disastrous for human soul and the mere existence of humanity. I am not against technology and technological advancements. But a judicious use of it at right places and in right amount. We are already living in an era of mental health issues. And we can't deny thar this over dependency on gadgets is a main cause there.
Eye health of people, especially young children are getting impacted. And it is a big concern.

@Ginger .I am sure that you are not an isolated case here. With the current lifestyle and kind of work, many would be in the same boat. There is so much of work demand that requires long sitting hours in front of the computer. You can try to have an alarm to remind you to stand stretch and maybe take a short walk before coming back to your workplace. Long sitting hours are not only bad for your eyes, but bring many bad effects on overall health.

I have the habit to rush with the work and for this reason many times I delay my lunch break so I don't find myself taking breaks after 20 mins but looking at its benefits we should find a way
