Are you afraid of the darkness?

There are people who are scared of the darkness and get nervous when they are alone in the dark.

Why are people scared of the dark? Do they think ghosts will appear, or do they think criminals hide in the dark for their prey?

Are you afraid of the dark? If yes, then why, what is your reason for it?

When I was a kid, I was scare of ghosts and afraid to be in the dark... Today's date are the wild animals lol

@Mike30 We don't see wild animals here in the city, as we don't have forests here, but for sure they are dangerous, especially in the dark. I also was scared of darkness when I was a child, but I was afraid of the ghosts and used to think ghosts live in the dark and they will eat me.

When I was younger, I was scared of the dark. I always remember I had to have some kind of night light on at night when I went to bed so that there was always light.

Nowadays, I can't sleep with a light on, and it has to be off, and I don't seem to be afraid of the dark anymore.

Same here @Spooky Shortie when I was a child I used to sleep with the lights on and now I can't sleep if the lights are on It seems every child is scared of the dark.

Scare of the unknown
My kids not long ago were scared to be alone, they were scare of the "Cartoon Cat", they heard among friends... This is
well spread on YouTube, I checked it and I was furious... You see.. These are the things that does not contribute anything good to society and should be banned on those sites.

My kids were terrified with this... And I don't let them to be on internet at all, but friends do and talk..

Same here @Spooky Shortie when I was a child I used to sleep with the lights on and now I can't sleep if the lights are on It seems every child is scared of the dark.

I always used to think all kids were scared of the dark, but it seems not all. We have an underpass near where I live and just the other day when my daughter and I were coming back from the shop, we saw two women with a little girl and a little boy. One of the women told the two children to hold hands as they went under the underpass and the little boy said "I'm not scared of the dark, I will be fine"

I just thought that was the cutest

@Spooky Shortie that's funny. Sometimes I also used to ask my kids to close their eyes when I know they are going to scare for something. Like my daughter was afraid of the vaccination so we used to close her eyes so as to distract her.

@Mike30 absolutely, or at least they should not be on the sites which are accessible to the kids.

That is so sweet I used to find a way to keep my kids distracted or in some cases, I have seen doctors who do things to distract a child when they have a vaccination

Haha, yes and no. I’m not scared all the time, but total darkness at night can make your brain play tricks. I remember one blackout a long time a ago and I couldn’t sleep, shadows everywhere. Honestly, a little fear is normal but with time, you get used to it.

Not afraid of the dark, no. I do keep a small light on in my room, ti's more like a black light at night, simply because i get up a lot during the night to use the bathroom. The issue i have is i tend to bump into stuff in the dark, and one time i took a pretty nasty fall tripping over something, so it's more for being able to see to get out of my room safely to the bathroom during the night.

I am sorry to know it. Yes we should be alert when we are out in the dark because criminals wait for their prey mostly in the dark and we must be careful.

While growing up my would say that it is the wicked ones that are afraid of the darkness. They believe that their wrongdoings can catch up with them and punish them. I guess I grew up with that as I was never afraid of the dark.

I'm not scared but I don't like darkness and not prefer to travel when it's dark. I really wish I can be in a country where it stays sunny throughout the day lol

@Ginger but I don't think there is any such country. How about the people who work at night and sleep in the day? One of my friends works in an international call center, and he has to work only night shifts. It's difficult to do that.

Depends what I was watching, listening to or reading before it and if I am home alone.

In general I am okay. Specially if it is a familiar environment. I am the crazy one that gets up in the middle of the night and won't turn on the lights just to use the bathroom or even go downstairs (ask me how that went the night I had to run downstairs and with the dark I misjudged and I missed a step thinking I was the floor level). I actually enjoy the process of having your eyes adjust to the dark. seeing more than what you initially could. I love it.
