How should parents handle teenage rebellion?

When raising a child, the hardest part is dealing with them during their teenage years. During this time of their lives, they tend to be rebellious in almost everything, how should parents handle their kids during this phrase of life?

Being a parent of two teenaged kids I can tell you it's not easy to handle the male child. I have tried to handle him by shouting/scaring him/hiting / by love but every went in vain. I have surrendered and left him to his own.

I am not a parent, but from the experience I had with my parents, it was not easy for them to manage a rebellious son. We had a rebellious brother, and my father didn't mind his actions. He only showed care and love to my brother. What he asked, he gave, and after some years, by brother realized his manners and was never a rebellious son again.

They should be prepared for it beforehand, but they should remember that they were once young as well. Most times it is not something that requires being harsh at all the time, be calm and address the problem rather than the teenager.

Ground them, take away there things or right to do stuff. I feel parents nowadays are too easy on their kids so they get away with a lot more.
